The Art of Survivorship

The Art of Survivorship is a continuing education course designed to equip social workers and healthcare providers with the knowledge and practical tools needed to support adolescents and young adults affected by cancer. Focusing on the unique developmental, psychosocial, and systemic challenges faced by this population, the course explores the three most commonly reported long-term effects of cancer and its treatment—anxiety, cancer-related fatigue, and fear of recurrence.

Participants will gain a deeper understanding of how these experiences show up in young adulthood, the risk and protective factors that shape them, and the essential role social workers play across the cancer care continuum. The course integrates evidence-informed approaches with creative coping and expressive strategies, offering hands-on interventions that can be adapted for diverse clients and settings. Throughout the program, young adult cancer survivors share their lived experiences, grounding clinical concepts in real-world perspectives and highlighting survivor-centered, equity-informed care.
